northern cardinal

Cardinalis cardinalis

Description:

The northern cardinal is one of the most popular birds in North America. It is the official state bird of at least 7 eastern states. The welcome sign into Virginia has the cardinal on its big sign as you come into the state. Quite striking. They like sunflower seeds so keep your bird feeders fully stocked during the winter months.

Habitat:

This lovely cardinal was sitting high on a branch in full sun and it made its red color even more brilliant. Spotted at an rv park in Florence, South Carolina.
