battus p. polydamas

Description:

This swallowtail is about 3" round. It was one of many in the area. There were perfect circumstances for them....a large orange tree to lay eggs and these malinche plants to get plenty of nectar! Look at how much pollen had accumulated on its wings!

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 6 weeks into the rainy season.
