Eastern collared lizard

Crotaphytus collaris

Description:

A quick, fat lizard with a clubbed tail (On the end). Reddish orange sides and bottom. Between 6-9 inches long.

Habitat:

Rocky terrain amidst the Flint Hills of Kansas. It seemed to enjoy being around Native Grass and hiding under large flat rocks.

Notes:

It had a very "tough" attitude and wasn't afraid to flaunt its large mouth when I approached it with a Camera. Not sure if the club on the end of its tail is a deformity or normal.

It sure looks like a young chuckwalla, but my sources do not have them listed as occurring in Kansas. But it has been my experience that lizards cannot read and that humans can transfer critters all over the world.
