Yellow-Tufted Woodpecker

Melanerpes cruentatus

A beautifully marked head make this medium sized black woodpeck quite striking. The yellow eye-rings with a bulbous appearance are quite unique. Males (like the one picktured) have a red cap on their heads.

Wet lowland forests of the Amazon.
