Plague Soldier beetle

Chauliognathus lugubris

Description:

15 mm length. Flattened body with a prominent yellow/orange stripe behind the black prothorax. The abdomen is yellow/orange covered by the metallic olive green elytra.

Habitat:

Urban areas, forest, heath, woodland.

Notes:

Called the Plague Soldier beetle because vast numbers of them can appear on plants throughout the warmer months.
