Terrapene carolina carolina
Beautifully colored male eastern box turtle (males have red irises while females have brown.) Patterned skin and shell in brown and yellow. Approx 6 inches in length. This fellow appears to have an old injury to his shell just above his head.
Found in a soybean field near the Little PeeDee River in South Carolina. Box turtles are largely terrestrial.
