Thanks again gator. I did just that once I seen your ID suggestion as I wondered about the wings. Had the missing part been there, I most likely would have guessed it to be a hairstreak :) They are beautiful and I can see why they are one of your favorites.

I just noticed the rear tails of yours is missing. That is another great part of this butterfly. Check the reference to see what I mean about the eyespots and the tails bend outward.

You will be rewarded by a glimpse. This one is like all other hairstreaks and does not sit still or fly slow. They revisit like the other hairstreaks, so be patient and keep looking. Good luk

Thank you gatorfellows! Unfortunately this is one I didn't see fly off. Had turned my head to see what was chirping over my head and when I turned back it was gone. I have seen and photographed the tiny hairstreaks, but had never seen one like this before, which is also quite a bit larger. I am going to have to keep my eyes open for another one, as now I want to see it with the wings open!

Congratulations, Great Photo! These are my favorite of the hairstreaks. Did you get to see the brilliant iridescent blue when it flew? the whole upper wings are a bright as that small peak you see on the underwing.
