Struthio camelus
The ostrich can run at maximum speeds of about 70 km/h (43 mph) for up to 30 minutes, the fastest land speed of any bird. This female was spotted with a male, who suddenly took off – perhaps because another male appeared on the horizon. When she noticed he was leaving, she rushed after him; apparently not interested in the newcomer.

Excellent photos. What a drumstick! Congrats.

Thank you, Yasser, for featuring this beautiful bird as the SOTD! It was such a pleasure watching her and her mate (and the "intruder") and the driver of the car was so nice to leave the road to get me a bit closer to her. And thanks to everyone else for your nice comments! What a lovely start to my day!
