Erebid Moth

Plecoptera sp.

Description:

Erebidae; Anobinae; Plecoptera; Plecoptera sp. This moth came to my attention when a well was being excavated on the farm. It was behaving in a manner that I had not seen in moths before. It was flying around the work site and landing on freshly dug soil. I don't know if it was sipping any moisture from the soil but It reminded me of butterfly "mud-puddling".

Habitat:

This moth was spotted in a rice field.
