Description:

Tree or overgrown shrub, 10-12 feet tall and equally broad, with waxy, heart-shaped leaves, ~ 3 inches across and ~ 5 inches long, and light yellow flowers.

Habitat:

Semi-arid windward tropical insular ridge of mixed shrubland and grassland. Original ecosystem modified by long-term human presence.

Notes:

Spotted near the Makapuu Point lookouts--near the southeasternmost point of Oahu--along the access road from Kalanianaole Highway. The first image shows part of the tree/shrub, the second and third are close-ups of two of its flowers.
