Incredible craftmanship...and to think a bird used its beak to fashion this elaborately woven hanging home!
By the side of the hotel building they had planted some trees that reached up almost to the balconies attached to the rooms. The nests (two) were attached high up on these trees. Very early in the morning I saw the bird leave the nest but it was too dark to take photographs. Till we left later in the day, I kept a vigil but I think the bird was watching me too.
1. Just outside the ancient Suntemple at Modhera is a tea stall. The guy has used Baya weaver bird nests to decorate the tree. We ran o photogrpah those but were disappointed o see the strings tying the nests to the branches (through the zoom)...and we deleted those pictures. This one is the authentic thing...you can see how it attaches to the branches. 2. The female inspects these nests midway during the construction, and she will tear away shoddy construction. Only when she approves of the final structure does she agree to lay her eggs in it.
