California Tortiseshell

Nymphalis californica

Description:

It was so hard to get a picture of this species. I must have seen dozens and dozens in a few days, but they never seemed to stop to feed or rest. At the end of the trip I got lucky.

Habitat:

Mixed conifer at 5,000ft elevation.
