Yellow Trout-Lily

Erythronium americanum

Description:

Small, low ground-cover type plants along a stream bottom with down-turned brilliant yellow flowers.

Habitat:

Stream bottom

Notes:

Forty Acre Rock Heritage Preserve is an unusual almost mountain-like habitat set in the Piedmont of South Carolina. There are waterfalls, a cave, huge boulders and the enormous rock face from which it takes its name. On the rock face are vernal pools that support brilliantly colored aquatic plants for the short period of time they are filled with spring rain. March is the best month to visit.
