Osprey with chicks

Pandion haliaetus

Description:

Very large, distinctively shaped raptors. Slender bodies with long, narrow wings and long legs. Ospreys fly with a marked kink in their wings, making an M-shape when seen from below. Ospreys are brown above and white below. Their heads are white with a broad brown stripe through the eye.

Habitat:

Nearly any body of water: saltmarshes, rivers, ponds, reservoirs, estuaries, and even coral reefs.

Notes:

3 chicks visible here while female is feeding. There may be a fourth but I'm not certain. The oldest is about 2 weeks old. :)
