Woolly-necked Stork

Ciconia episcopus

Description:

Black cap on head, dark beak, dark back and wings, white neck and vent, flies with neck extended like all storks and long undertail coverts make its black tail look white in flight.

Habitat:

Widespread range but these two were seen soaring over Angkor Wat temple, very high up, riding the thermals for a long time. This is the first time our guide had seen or heard of Woolly-necked Stork at this location so it was pretty exciting to get these photos for their records.

Notes:

Classed as Vulnerable in Southeast Asia.
