Chickasaw Plum

Prunus augustifolia

Description:

Thicket forming shrub or small tree with shiny narrow leaves having finely toothed margins. The fruit is 1/2-3/4 in. long.

Habitat:

Dry prairie in section 39 of the LBJ grasslands.

Notes:

Ripe plums can be canned, frozen, dried, or preserved. They also make good jelly, preserves, and wine. Native Americans dried the small plums on hot rocks and stored them for future use.
