Anoplognathus rugosus
This orange coloured christmas beetle was about 20 to 25 mm long. It appeared much longer than the others of this genus seen in this area. It looked like varnished wood with smooth orange legs and black hook-like tarsi. The front of the head resembled a scoop. Slightly posterior to and on either side of this scoop were milky blue eyes. The underside of the abdomen had thick white setae.
Spotted under bright lights near a national park. This species of Anoplognathus is mostly seen in central Victoria and NSW.
There are many species that resemble this beetle. the species ID needs confirmation. http://franmart.blogspot.com.au/2011/01/... Family: Scarabaeidae Subfamily: Rutelinae

Nice shots!!beautiful!!
Haven't seen one of this sort before - the colour and size were amazing, Stephen. So pleased I spotted it before Mark did. :)
wow you have orange ones. Nice. Haven't seen one like that yet.
That one looks even bigger than most. Strong colour too.
