Black Skimmer chicks + Video

Rynchops niger

Description:

This was a nesting colony of about 200 adults. Unfortunately the Laughing Gulls were grabbing the chicks & swallowing them whole...I wonder how many will manage to fledge?

Habitat:

Sandy beach: Longboat Key, FL: Gulf of Mexico

Thanks Emma, Ava & Michal
Yes, scrapes are the most basic of nests...
It was an awesome experience although it was hard to watch the chicks being taken by the gulls...such is life...
