Blanding's Turtle

Emys blandingii

Description:

Female Blanding's Turtle located at the Sugarloaf campground in the Waterloo Rec Area near Chelsea, MI. She was spotted on a roadway. Rangers IDed the turtle who we then relocated to a better location for her to nest (aka the OTHER side of the road in the direction she was heading.)

Habitat:

Mostly aquatic, but often travel over land to find nest sites, mates, or new habitat.

Notes:

Blanding's Turtle are a special concern species in Michigan and we were privilaged to get the chance to meet this young lady who was on her way most likely to nest as they do so in June.
