jeweled flower mantis

Creobroter gemmatus

Description:

Very small, visible length about 4mm. Color shiny reddish brown with black markings. Pointed eyes which direct towards the flower mantis identification.

Habitat:

Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 1000m.

Notes:

I have seen this tiny, first instar mantis four times in the past years; July and December and only within a few days of each spotting. Possibly indicating that the mantis breeds twice per year. I have no research to back up this observation.

Irene - you have images that are small subjects, that are very good. The images of small subjects have to be cropped to make them useful.
