Golden rod crab spider

Misumena vatia

Description:

This crab spider was perfectly blended with the California buttercup flower.I like this picture because it gives a different perspective of the spider.Till now I have always seen crab spiders dorso ventrally flattened.!This spider was perched and standing on the stamens of the flower. It almost looks like the petal of the flower!! Goldenrod crab spiders are typically found on yellow or white flowers like goldenrod (hence the name) or daisies. They are able to change their body color from white to yellow to blend in with the type of flower they are on. The female is larger and more recognizable (it's entire body, except for the red stripes on the side) changes color.

Habitat:

Canyon
