Eastern Box Turtle

Habitat:

Found among leaf litter in a garden plot in a residential neighborhood.

Notes:

This juvenile animal is difficult to recognize in comparison to the shape and colors of the adults. Although it was found late in the year, the animal still appears to have its egg tooth (see the second photo.) After these photos were taken, this animal was released in a woodland area nearby.
