A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Agelaius phoeniceus
Adult female: Brown and streaky overall, Thick dark streaks on breast. Buff or orange throat. Sharply pointed conical bill. This spotting is showing the female of the species. The male is unmistakeable from almost any other bird.
Red-winged Blackbirds can be found in fresh and saltwater marshes, along watercourses, water hazards on golf courses, and wet roadsides, as well as drier meadows and old fields. In winter, you can find them at crop fields, feedlots, and pastures. These birds can be found almost anywhere in North America, during the summer months. These birds do migrate south for the winter.
These female red-winged blackbirds were setting up there nesting area in an area where many people travel past each and every day.

Thank you IsabellaFiers, I like to tell people that one of my goals when photographing wildlife is to try my hardest to make the ordinary become somewhat extraordinary. Often times I fail, but if I can get a few here and there then perhaps people who rarely look at wildlife will look at nature and that species in a very different light. I love your work by the way, you have many stunning photos yourself.
