Don't worry! I enjoyed researching it.
And it was time well spent; I was already subconsciously trying to identify the different composite flowers that grow along the road side. :P
Oh yes, please let me know if someone does. I'll favourite it too so I can keep an eye out. ;)

Hello Pamsai, I spent a lot of time yesterday evening on trying to find this species, but I can't find it! All thistle species that I've seen have much more compact flowers. I could not find one that has its small flowers on such long stems. The genus Centaurea gets pretty close to it, but it is not the right one.
Maybe it only occurs in the Mediterranean and is too rare for me to find online.
So it is a nice find! ;) It has definitely left me puzzled.

That's really helpful, thank you!
Won't be home again for a while, but I'll try and see if I can find it when I have my Flora again! :)
Cheers!

thanks Dakduif, I think I had to get down on the ground to photograph these from the side, so they were quite close to the ground. Added a photo with thigh high grass in the background. Hope that helps.

ooh, nice one!
One last question: how big was it approximately? Because some thistles are only ankle-height while others can be taller than a person!

Nice flower, lovely colour.
If you want help to identify the species, you should really try to photograph the rest of the plant. Leave shape, total hight, arrangement of stalks and leaves and so on should do the trick.
