Florida Flame Azalea

Rhododendron austrinum

Description:

This wild azalea was growing in a moist area underneath deciduous trees. It is likely Rhododendron austrinum (Florida flame azalea). But, it could be a hybrid of R. austrinum.

Habitat:

It was growing at Brick Pond Park in North Augusta, SC. The park contains numerous constructed ponds and native plants to South Carolina.

Notes:

Rhododendron austrinum is also called Florida flame azalea, honeysuckle azalea, Southern yellow azalea, and orange azalea.
