Mouse-ear Hawkweed

Hieracium pilosella

Description:

Yellow herbaceous flowering plant

Habitat:

Found in the area between the "yellow" dune (first dune) and the "grey" dune (second dune), so It was found in the valley between the dunes. This hawkweed was found at the site of a blowout, where the waves brought rocks and water onto the dunes breaking down the dune grass, creating a hole in the dune system. This allows for many of the grassland species of plants to colonize the area, such as this hawkeed, red clover, mouse-eared chiickweed, rumex (sheep sorrow), etc.

Notes:

That's Dr. Pierre Taschereau in the second photo identifying what we thought was a dandelion as a hawkweed. Now we know!
