Eight Spotted Skimmer

Libellula forensis

Description:

2 inches long. Has four black spots on forewing and hindwing. Male has 2 dark spots each wing, the outer one is shaped like a number 8 and goes from leading edge to trailing edge. Also has 3 white spots. The end of the wing is clear. Abdomen and the top of the thorax is pruinose blue. The female has a brown body with dashed yellow side stripes. The female wings are like the male's. They fly from April to October and prefer ponds, lakes and ditches
