Red-backed Fairy-wren

Malurus melanocephalus

Description:

Male in breeding plumage - a small, black wren with a striking red patch on his back and rump. He was accompanied by a plain brown female but I missed catching her on camera.

Our backyard - a rare visitor. I have seen them here only once before. Widespread across northern and eastern Australia.
