Southern Double-Collard Sunbird

cinnyris chalybeus

One of the smaller sunbirds in the region, this series shows off the male in flight during this great spring time with all the Protea in full boom on the side of Table Mountain. The full sunny afternoon alowed him to show of beautiful emerald plumage and distinct second red collar band on the chest. His rapid Chee-Chee call is sharp, short and distinct in a 'rapid fire' pattern. As with all sun and sugar birds, it will also take insects and small spiders.

Coastal and Karoo scrub following seasonal flower patterns.

Updated with new close shot for plumage
