Chrysocoris sp. (possibly C. Ornatus)
I spotted this on our balcony in Singapore. I couldn't find anything like it online.
Hi Vivien. Great spotting. I think go with Richard's suggestion. He knows the local fauna far better than I do. I can see the difference between the two species now, so I think it's a pretty safe bet. With your spottings, if you know the genus but not the species, you can add something like this to the scientific name field.... Chrysocoris sp. (possibly C. ornatus). You've recorded your spotting and that is most important, but other details always help.
Thanks guys. I had a hunch it was a jewel bug but the photos I saw on the web looked different. Still can’t find the exact beetle with the same colours and markings, wonder if it’s a cross breed🤨
jewel bug (Hemiptera, Pentatomoidea; Scutelleridae; Scutellerinae)
this is one variety of Chrysocoris ornatus (Dallas, 1851)... a species extremely variable in colour... most frequent in the Malay Archipelago and Malay Peninsula... but sporadically occurs through Indo-China to southern China.!
Lovely spotting, Vivien. That is a gorgeous bug. I've made an ID suggestion for you, but there doesn't seem to be an abundance of common names. I did find this - https://indiabiodiversity.org/observatio... Jewel bugs or metallic shield bugs are generic names.
This looks like a jewel bug...and you can see why they get this name...I will try and find a match for this spotting.
