Marbled salamander

Ambystoma opacum

Description:

We have been pulling up privet and buckthorn in wooded areas of the reserve in an effort to keep the invasives somewhat under control. In doing so, we have uncovered a resting marbled salamander twice; in both cases, we took a couple photos and then put the individual back under the leaf cover to continue its winter sojourn.

Habitat:

Mason Farm Biological Reserve
