Eupatorium perfoliatum

Description:

boneset is a native plant with interesting opposite perfoliate leaves , making it look like the stem of the plant punches through the leaf in the middle. it is in the same family as Joe Pye weed (eupatoriae) historically this plant had medicinal use to break fevers, supposedly taking this herb would induce sweating and bring high fevers down.

Habitat:

likes wet soil. these individuals were growing in muddy ruts left by tires. i have seen it growing in abundance in wetlands and stream banks.
