Archilochus colubris
The Ruby-Throated Hummingbird are 7–9 cm (2.8–3.5 in) long and have a 8–11 cm (3.1–4.3 in) wingspan. Weight ranges from 2 to 6 g (0.071 to 0.21 oz), with males averaging 3.4 g (0.12 oz) against the slightly larger female which averages 3.8 g (0.13 oz). Adults are metallic green above and greyish white below, with blackish wings. Their bill is long, straight and very slender. The adult male has a ruby red throat patch which may appear black in some lighting, and a dark forked tail. The female has a dark rounded tail with white tips and generally no throat patch, though she may sometimes have a light or whitish throat patch. The male is smaller than the female, and has a slightly shorter beak.
I still have three females, I am seeing regularly now, the male has not shown himself to me now in over a week. The photos you see here were shot without the use of any artificial light. The sun was my only light source, and the backgrounds are naturally dark, due to the background being a deeply wooded area, which gets minimal sunlight.

Dan, it is truly an honor to be able to be able to be a part of this amazingly diverse and wonderful world wide community. I love wildlife, and I do my best to capture the beauty I see. I hope in some small way, I can play a part in helping others to see the beauty that is all around them. I appreciate you taking the time to comment, and I look forward to seeing some of your many spottings.
It's my pleasure. You have a great collection of spottings, suberbly photographed. My favorites are the hummingbird clearwing and the northern flying squirrel. It's great to have you in the community.
