Parasitic mite on a honey bee

Varroa destructor

Description:

I was wondering why there were some bees that just seems to have no energy and just sitting on the wall outside the hive. Picked a "dead" bee up and studied it under a 50X surface microscope and found that it had a parasitic mite, Varroa destructor, on it. .

Notes:

This is different to a bee louse which apparently does not harm bees significantly Bee louse: http://insects.about.com/b/2011/03/18/fr...
