Pantherophis alleghaniensis
Probably the biggest rat snake ive seen in the area. Over 6 feet in length and very old. Only had one eye and covered in scars and scale rot.
Very sick. Most docile snake I've ever met. Didn't fight or show any signs of aggression. Let me hold him and never tried to escape. He was probably very sick considering his age and condition.

Hi there. Since you know the identity of your organism, please go ahead and fill in the scientific name field. This allows the spotting to fully enter the database and become complete, letting groups and individuals to use the data and find your spotting. It also takes the spotting off the "unidentified" list. Thank you!
Here's a great Project Noah blog entry that explains the spotting process:

Hi 1dmango21. It would probably be a good idea to crop this photo so that the snake is featured more so than the 2 humans. Congrats to the graduate!
my understanding was that people's faces shouldn't be posted!
so we crop and post !
Nice spotting by the way ..
Very nice find. I too have never seen a black rat snake that large.
I was in a wedding in CT a number of years ago and was doing some casual herping off to the side while photos were being taken outdoors. Sorry to hear this snake was all beat up, but age will do that to us all. Nice find on graduation day! :-)
