These plants are just finishing their blooming and beginning to form the burs that will attach to anything that comes near. Only one or two of the tiny florets are still visible.

Habitat:

Riparian edge of Lake Lewisville, Tx.

Notes:

Cockleburs (Xanthium) are a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, native to the Americas and eastern Asia.
