Great Blue Heron (white phase)

Ardea herodias occidentalis

Description:

Just like Great Blue Heron except it has no pigment in its plumage. Can be told apart from the Great Egret in the foreground (they were both there next to each other!) by the color of the legs and by the tail feathers.

Habitat:

Island location. Saltwater marshy area with buttonwood and mangrove trees alnog Florida Bay.

Notes:

Spotted this one at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center located at mile marker 93.6 in Tavernier, Florida.

Nice spotting. The great egret and white morph blue heron are so similar at a glance. Nice to have them in perspective; thanks for sharing. (I'm a little jealous too: all my white morph spottings have turned into egrets when it comes down to the details.)

I tell in the description of this Heron why it is not an egret. In the other photo the Heron is in the background and the egret is in the foreground. You might also want to check out my references as well.
