Rüppell's korhaan

Eupodotis rueppellii

Description:

My second spotting of Rüppell's korhaan, a.k.a. Rüppell's bustard - this is a large terrestrial bird of arid areas, with sandy coloured body, long grey neck with black-and-white pattern, and a small white-and-grey head. It is a large bird in general, although small for bustards (family Otididae).

Habitat:

Difficult to say if it's endemic or near-endemic - this korhaan is native to Namib desert, but some literature say it can also be found somewhere in Angola (??). Here, in north-western part of the country, on rocky and almost barren terrain (apart for few acacia trees and shrubs), close to shores of a dry river-bed.
