Anas acuta
Dabbling duck
I always describe this as an elgant looking duck. With it's long slim neck and long tail. Males head are a rich chocolate brown color. Neck has white line from the side of the head to meet up in front of the neck and goes down to the chest. Sides and upper back is grey color. Black rump bordere by tan patch. Lower back has long dark feathers with light edges. Wing speculum bars (seen in flight) are bronze, dark and white. Bill looks blue-grey with a dark stripe.
Females also have a long tail, but not as long as the male. She also has long feathers on the back. Body feathers are brown with light edging. Head is a reddish-brown and the bill is dark.
Bays and lakes.
