Cascade golden-mantled ground squirrel

Spermophilus saturatus

Description:

A distinctive white stripe bordered by black running along the body. Mostly gray on the body and tail with a rufous color on the legs, chest and head. There is a white eye ring.

Habitat:

Spotted on the Naches trail in central Washington. Cascade mountains above 4000 ft. Found only in the Cascade mountains of British Columbia and Washington state.

Notes:

4 toes on front feet, 5 toes on hind feet.
