Emperor gum moth

Opidodiphthera eucalypti

Description:

A large bright green caterpillar of the emperor moth. The soft tissue bears protuberances terminating in bright colors of orange and blue, with spines bearing itching properties. These were collected as eggs to document the lifecycle as mature caterpillars are rather scarce since the introduction of the european wasp.

Habitat:

Captive bred.

Notes:

Parasitic flies and wasps also take some healthy toll on the moth population. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/799...
