Black-railed jackrabbit

Lepus californicus

Description:

One of the biggest I’d ever seen. Couldn’t get much closer to him to get a better picture. I thought he was hurt at first when I found him in the middle of the canal road but then he scurried away, tried hiding behind a pole and then a drainage ditch

Habitat:

Canal road through flat farmland
