Ardea alba
A medium-large tall white wading bird with a sharp yellow beak. Legs and feet are black.
Waterways--creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes, lagoons; brackish and fresh water.
hunts by wading the shallows, ambushing fish that swim past and spearing them with its sharp bill. Differentiated from the similar snowy egret by its solid black legs and feet and its yellow bill. This individual was very habituated to humans. Fisherman told me he was named Larry and that they had to watch their minnow buckets closely when Larry was around or he would steal minnows from their buckets.
