Alcedo atthis
The colour of this bird is a silvery turquoise. Chest is rufous. White patch on ears near the orange patch. Tiny bird. You can see how tiny in the last photo.
Between two small stalls/shops. Facing a water body. On the other side is the main lake of Santragachi, Howrah where many winter migrants arrive annually. The pair was unperturbed by the people passing by and vehicular movements.
The colour is unlike the Common Kingfisher I generally see....but the orange ear coverts show it is one...may be a different subspecies...I honestly thought it was a Lifer.

Thank you, James McNair. I had seen this bird earlier...nearer home but never in this shade of blue...not sure if it is a different subspecies or nuptial plumage...in any case, it was a stunning colour.
Superb
