Calico Pennant

Celithemis elisa


The Calico Pennant or Elisa Pennant (Celithemis elisa) is a dragonfly found in North America, in the Pennant genus of dragonflies. Males (like this spotting) have red heart-shaped markings on the dorsal side of the abdomen that is yellow in the females. Their wings have three red areas: one at the tip, one in the middle, and one large area close to the body.


This one was spotted at the stork ponds at the Silver Bluff Audubon Center near Jackson (Aiken County), SC.
