Winter Moth (male)

Operophtera sp.

Description:

Highly variable in markings, but overall gray in color. Wingspan roughly 25 millimeters.

Habitat:

Several of these moths were on the exterior of an apartment building in an urban residential neighborhood. Overall habitat is coniferous forest: Douglas fir, Western Red Cedar, with maples, alder, and ferns in understory.

Notes:

Females are wingless and difficult to find.
