Crested Shrike-Tit

Falcunulus frontatus (eastern form)

Description:

Grows to just under 20cm, black face mask over white head, black crest on head, short thick slightly curved beak, yellow belly, green/olive/grey back, wings and tail, often seen ripping bark from tree branches and trunk in search of insects and larvae, also splits open seeds and pods.

Habitat:

Found throughout eastern Australia in forest and woodland usually high up in tree tops, rarely seen down low.

Notes:

Habit of spending most of its time very high in tree tops makes photographing difficult, but for the patient and timely it is very rewarding, even just to see them in the wild.
