A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Amegilla cingulata
A small distinctive bee with blue, sometimes green bands on its abdomen, depending on the lighting. The thorax is hairy rust brown.
Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 1000m.
Extremely fast, skilled fliers, emitting a loud high pitched sound that can be unnerving if they pass close by. They rarely stay still for more than a second when feeding, making them difficult to photograph. The hover motionless while feeding, which ironically makes in-flight shots a possibility, but it is a numbers game.

Awesome shot folicallychalled, congrats on the well deserved SOTD and thanks for sharing
awesome!
Amazing! Great photo. There are very similar bees in CA where I used to live that would pollinate flowers and then retreat to a burrow.
Congratulations on the SOTD.
Thanks Beaker :)
Cingrats on SOTD! This is a spectacular shot!
Dave, no worries and my apologies for the annoyance! I'll look up your email now and send you a reply. Thanks for your patience and congrats again!
Thankyou so much Yasser, to be picked for SOTD is a privilage indeed.
However, I am unable to upload anything today, which is must unfortunate, as I have a beauty all ready to go. I have reported the problem on the contacts page and by email, but no response as yet - frustrating.
Hopefully the problem can be remedied very soon and I can delete this comment from the records.
