Great Horned Owl

Bubo virginianus

Habitat:

Wooded timber on the edge of the Green River

Notes:

I came across this bright eyed beauty along the banks of the Green River. I was a bit puzzled as to why it wasn't flying away as I took photos, and all I can figure out is that it fell into the water while hunting or diving and was trying to dry off. You can easily see the ice built up on it's feathers. I did go back that evening to see if it was still there, and it was gone. Hopefully he recovered and flew away.

Agree dotun55 with the eyes. They are quite mesmerizing. Good choice of song too:)

Their eyes fascinate me the most. Now, listening to Wiz Khalifah's Black And Yellow ;-)

Thanks Maria and Tom! It would have been nice to photograph what actually happened, but I'll count my blessings for just seeing it so closely.
