Peacock Royal (Male)

Tajuria cippus longinus

Description:

Tornal lobes are seen as a head when viewed from behind and above ( 3rd and 4th pics). This false head acts as an escaping mechanism. Predators tend to attack the head when preying and attack the false one, thus giving the butterfly a chance to escape without much damage.

Habitat:

Beddagana wetland park

Notes:

Feeding on the nectar of the flower of Mikania cordata
